Small Painting ManPatrick Miller Painting Software:  One of my hobbies is writing software using vb.net. This is something I don't get enough time to do but when I do I really enjoy it. Below are a few things I have done. They are free to download. I'm not a pro, so if you find any bugs or issues please let me know.  You will need the net framework 2.0 and higher to run these programs. This is a free download from Microsoft or you can download the installer that contains what is needed. I will be adding more programs as time goes on.

 

Hide Your Formulas Gennix System     Hide your formulas 1.0  is a tool to help out paint stores who do custom color matching keep these formulas in your store. I'm sure at one time or another you have had customers come in and get custom matches only to take those formulas someplace else to get the rest of their paints. Hopefully this tool will stop that. As of right now, it will work with the Benjamin Moore color systems. Here are some of the features for this tool:  

  • Will print to Dymo printers - models 330, 400 and 450 for the labels DT-234BM. 2 1/8 x 2 3/4

  • Gives you the option to encrypt just the colorant or you can encrypt both the colorant and formula. It's your choice. The encryption method for the colorants is when this program first runs on your computer,  it will randomly generate unique numbers and assign them to each colorant. This is a one time deal and is not reversible unless you do a complete uninstall. As for the formula part, this program will do a small encryption routine using your custom password you set up in the options screen. The default pass is 2222. You can change this as many times as you like and it will record each time you do.

  • Keeps a database of all labels you have printed, with easy to use search functions

  • As of right now it will do both the Gennix and Preview Systems     

  • Tested this on Microsoft XP and Windows 7

The Paint Estimator 1.0

      The Paint Estimator 1.0  is coming soon. Well not that soon but soon. This program will help you with your estimates. Easy to use interface that will make doing estimates not such a chore anymore. This program is intended for the Owner/Operator with 6 or less employees.  Which means if you are a owner and have 6 or less guys and you work on the jobs with your employees then this might be the program for you. The type of estimating that this program is based off is the "eye ball method" which means how long will it take you to complete a specific task. For example: To paint the stucco on the exterior of a house you looked at, you figure it will take 2 days, with 3 guys to apply two coats. This would be a total of 6 man days to complete this task. You would simply just input this in the program and it will calculate the costs based off your wages, your employee wages, and your overhead costs. It's still a guess, but that is what estimating is. A guess on how long it will take to complete a task, and how much materials it will take. Here are a few features that this program will do:

  • Easy to use interface

  • Will keep track of all your estimates you have done, and give you statistics on your closing rates, profits, wages and much more.

  • Benjamin Moore Material ListComes with a Benjamin Moore material list, that you can edit to your personal prices. If your not a BM fan then you can add what ever brand you like.

  • A real nice customer database all in one window where you will be able to do a quick view on each job to see the basic info.

  • Progress page - This is good for when your doing large jobs and your wondering how your doing with your numbers.

  • Keep track your hours and employees.

  • Export the customer database to excel

  • Print pre designed proposals and invoices.

  • Will keep track of your profit and loss for the last 3 years

  • A complete back up system that will back up all your files incase you have a computer issues and need to re install.

  • Outside material list - this is for things like when you purchase a sprayer, drop cloths, brushes and any other tools you can not charge to a specific job.

  • Will calcuate your worker comp, insurance and over head fees and give you the choice to add these costs to your final price.

  • There is much more to this program, when I get close to finishing it I will list all the features.

Again not sure when this will be ready, these things take time and right now we are pretty busy with painting. So please check back often for any updates.
